What started out as an intimate 14-room country house in 2014, has expanded to include 22 villas – all with their own private pools – and an impressive organic garden, from where the hotel's organic restaurant draws its produce.
Set amongst fragrant pine trees near the rice fields and white sand beaches of Comporta, the property's latest development is the addition of nine new suites that stand shoulder to shoulder on the edge of one of Europe's largest biological pools. Inspired by the nearby village of Carrasqueria, where fishing huts on wooden jetties zig-zag out over the water, each of the suites have private terraces from which guests can dive directly into the natural waters, treated solely through the use of aquatic plants.
The interiors are an essay in Comporta chic. Woven baskets adorn walls, straw trimmed lamps swing from the raw wood ceilings, and furnishings in muted colours sit on varnished cement floors. Meanwhile, the bathrooms – a strong point at Sublime – house free-standing oval tubs and delicious Claus Porto soaps.
All of which come together as proof that Sublime has carved a place for itself as one of Portugal's most desirable luxury hotels.
