It's best-known for its clutch of villas and residences in affluent destinations from London's Belgravia to St. Barth's, so it's no surprise that – for its first hotel offering – The Collection has pulled out all the stops, landing in Paris' Golden Triangle, one street over from Avenue Montaigne.
With just 11 rooms, suites and apartments, the intimate property occupies a grand three-storey neoclassical pile originally built in 1908 for Maurice Villeroy, a member of the family that founded the fine porcelain company Villeroy & Boch.
Inside, classic elements like ornate cast-iron railings, carved wood panelling and lofty ceilings – decorated with elaborate mouldings – abound. Modernity, meanwhile gently intrudes by way of contemporary custom made furniture by Italian brand Promemoria, and details like the standout chandelier in the entrance by Atelier Alain Ellouz, specially commissioned artwork by French painter Pierre Bonnefille, and plush marble bathrooms.
The lower ground floor wellness space offers a series of spa treatments alongside facilities including a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and a hydrotherapy shower, while Bar Jean Goujon, with its Japanese whiskey selection, is the perfect ending to a meal at in-house restaurant Trente-Trois, where Michelin-starred chef Sebastien Sanjou whips up modern French dishes including fresh blue lobster served with seasonal vegetables and drizzled with tarragon jus and the line-caught seabass served with a rich shellfish stock, Jerusalem artichoke and green cabbage.
