Swooshing in just in time for the start of the ski season is Méribel’s newest ski-in/ski-out hotel.
With admirable restraint, the Paris-based interior architect Pierre Yovanovitch has gently terraced into the side of a meringue-white slope to spread Le Coucou’s 55 rooms, suites and chalets over ten cascading levels of rugged stone walls and spacious terraces.
The sense of expanding space is amplified by the high-ceilinged interiors lined in blond timber, alpine-lite furnishings, customized furniture and judicious hangs of antique cuckoo clocks. From every vantage point, including the cloistered lap pool, full advantage is taken of the views of Belvedere’s snowy peaks pulled in through the floor to ceiling windows.
After a lomi lomi massage in the mood-lit Tata Harper spa, it’s a toss-up between the sizzling Kobe beef teppanyaki in the Beefbar, or the charcuterie and grilled Chilean seabass at the Italian-themed Bianca Neve.
